DOVFD Brush 551 responds to a large grass fire in Denton. A Red Flag Warning was issued on Jan 29th as high winds and low humidity helped to create several large and out of control fires around North Texas. Resources were slim as Brush 551 responded to this 100 acre fire with only one other brush truck. More resources arrived later in the incident. Video shows B-551 trying to stop the fire at a roadway and then action towards the head of the fire as it crossed the roadway to the west of where our truck was working. The fire finally stopped itself in a junk yard due to the terrain sloping down and railroad tracks crossing its path.

  • We had a fire in Harrah, OK Friday 3/11/11. In 10 minutes, it went from a small 3 acre grass fire to jumping 1 mile by crowning through the cedar trees. I was in the fire district north of Harrah and got called out right away as a W.A.R. day response. By midnight, we had 15 sq. miles burned, lost 31 homes, and had 53 departments there. Oklahoma City sent 38 engine company's alone for this fire. It was so hot and intense, and 40-60 mph winds that fog would have done shit.

  • i live in medina and ohio and we just had a 300 acre grass fire last week we're so small we had to dispatch 7 departments to get it out

  • Maybe there is no houses, and maybe they want to get it out before it gets to big, in small town theirs not many fire trucks and they have to call in fire trucks from other small town witch well take time, By that time the fire could be out of control. But in call we have enough fire trucks to do brush and house at the same time. we have city, state, and federal

  • i don't agree with that, when you use a fog patteren, you lose your GPMs, there for useing less water. straight stream puts more water on the fire. if your at the head of the fire spraying into the burned area, you dont have to worry about ambers.

  • Dude what are you saving wood and grass burns it is soppsed to burn let it go go to the interface and protect structures

Risk A lot to save a lot

it is grass and trees let it go save your resorses and keep it contained with DOF

  • Sabrefirefighter... Where are you located?

  • dude im not talkin bout usin a full fog im talkin bout opening up the stream so u can cover more. i have used a 15 to 25% fog with foam and with straight water on grass fires and it works so much better.

  • a fog pattern wouldn't have been good to use in the winds. it would have just drifted the water around and be a waste of effort.

  • should of been using 20 to 30% fog would of got more area covered and wouldnt of spread embers

  • Yes its obvious he was using one. You can tell by the angle of the film, as well as the visual and audio quality...
