I think he's updating a lot of the work of other comedians and making it more accessible to his audience. Also he's using things in his life to show his connection to the material. His technique is all wrapped up. I realize now that liking a comedian goes from liking them for their jokes and then for the technique. You can pick up the cunning deftness in their voice. Great observationalists.
