I admire Hitler's capability in reviving a nation opressed by other nations. However things are started going out of hand. Tactical and propaganda flaws mixed with overconfidence surely a formula for disaster. Why commit self termination if you are defending the truth? :)

Because had he not done that, he would've faced the same end the rest of his inner circle, Army High Command and military officers did - a series of heavily biased, politically motivated showcase trials run by his enemies (who wanted him dead no matter what). He probably would've been tortured to confess all kinds of absurd things, just like many of his officers, generals and associates were.

Yep, but if he face trial with pride, he might be a more inspiring figure as he once being tried for treason once. On the late years of the war, he started to act based on instinct rather than data. Didn't listen to good advice from Donitz, Rommel and of course Von Paulus.

The fact that he was at war with almost all of the World (which he didn't want, he repeatedly offered Great Britain and France peace-offers which were rejected) was taking its toll on him, and so it would do to any leader. He never wanted a war with the West and feared the rising power and expansion of the Soviet Union. There's no point in facing a trial with pride in which you are made to confess to anything they say. Had he done that, the post-war propaganda lies about him would be even worse.

Also, the attempts drove Hitler, and wounding him, into "seclusion".

@ascendrian When it became apparent that Germany was going to "lose" can you imagine the "hopelessness" that many must have felt? This feeling then spurs 1of2 reactions. ULTIMATE sacrifice, bravery, fearlessness. Or fearful cowardice which then feeds the desire to "surrender".
