What makes someone an atheist? What makes someone a theist?

To be a theist, you have to believe in god; to be an atheist, you have to not be a theist. That's it; if you don't believe in god, you're an atheist, whether it's explicit or tacitly so.

And no, being an agnostic does not absolve you of this; agnosticism is NOT neutral ground.

You might as well pick a side, cuz you're on one even if you don't.

1 We did not discuss god, if we did show where. We discussed definitions of the word knowledge in general context

2 The meaning of the word knowledge does not change depending on the context, so even if we did discuss god it would not matter.
