Clips from an interview with Celina Harpe, an elder in the Cree community of Fort Mackay, about 40km downstream from Suncor and Syncrude plants on the Athabasca River. She describes the increase in cancer, the lowering of the water levels on the river, and the disappearance of wildlife in the area.

  • It's an other way to wipe out the First Nation People. What the settlers and troops have not done in the 19th century have not done, the Tar Sands Industry will silently do now. I just say: Stand up and rise your voice! Make it public! Spread your voice widely.

  • @MMilitia2006 how closed minded you are... that is why the world is the way it is. Because of people with closed minds like yourself. I will pray for you to open your mind and heart then maybe we can all work together for a solution. I am a native and I don't drink do drugs or smoke cigarettes.

  • @torason I have to agree with you on this one, I'm completely ashamed, embarrassed and upset by the decisions made by our governments in the last 15 or so years. Furthermore, what happens when there's another forest fire nearby, THAT'S inevitable, and will be disastrous, and aside from our First Nations' brothers and sisters, I will sleep well knowing that they WILL all burn in hell (Ft. McMurray, Alberta) Has anyone considered THAT as a source of ghg emissions??????? I bet not

  • I'm almost 100% sure that there IS water treatment plants all along the Athabasca river.

  • Workers at the tar sands mining sites must be heavily exposed to these pollutants. They should show very high rates of cancer due to this exposure. So...do they?

  • @Rushworshiper92 dumbass.

  • @MMilitia2006 spoken like a true napikwan. XD

  • No one gives a shit about you Indians. You're dying of cancer cause you are all alcoholics, drug addicts and chain smokers.Fuck off.

  • @fortmcmurraycash It does not matter who works there...the area is being poisoned. You think it is ok to pay people if they are getting poisoned?
