This is a drawing and painting tutorial on painting a fire-breathing dragon. This video tutorial is in HD and I have captured the full screen of Corel Painter so you may see all that I do with my brushes, papers, and layers. I try to keep all my tools as simple as I can, but on occasion I will create a second or even a third layer if I am painting a detailed background, or if the subject is complex. I use the same brushes in most of my digital paintings, and in this one I use 2 effects brushes to create the fire.
*Note: I use one layer to paint my portraits just like in traditional art. This is especially necessary when working with certain brushes such as the digital watercolors or tinting brushes, which create undesired effects if painted on a new transparent layer. Painting on one layer also helps in honing my painting skills and forces me to commit & make corrections in my paintings which in turn creates a learning experience every time.

How long did it take you to create this?

@XxemoeeveexX This dragon only took me about 3 or 4 hours to paint.

Hi, i usually draw by hand, but I've been considering picking up a tablet and getting into digital drawing. Would you say it's hard to transition from hand drawing to paint with a tablet?
Thx for the feedback. Awesome drawing btw

@Wadafakdude It's not so much hard as it is just getting used to painting a different way. At first you may become frustrated - but it's normal for anything new. Over time, with daily practice, you will get used to looking at the screen while your hand works the pen tablet - it's all learned coordination. Remember to always have fun as you learn!

how do you know where the brush is on the tablet

@firstdarkknight That's a good question. At first it was tricky just knowing how to coordinate my eyes and the pen with the tablet, so I had a hard time in the beginning. After a while, and with lots of practice, I got better. Also, it takes patience. Did I mention lots of practice? :)
