crazy how everyone was so crazy after she landed her 3sal lol nowadays if you want to have a chance at wining anything you need a triple triple combo

Midori had those great, powerful jumps with those muscled legs of hers, so her performance consisted of waiting for the jumps. But Jill had the crowd with her since she was delivering a performance and not just jumps. You gotta work the crowd--that's what Michelle Kwan did, the last 20 seconds she'd really 'turn it on" and bring the crowd to its feet. Trenary said 20 years ago that we should limit triple jumps to maybe four in the lp, lest skating become a Mexican jumping bean contest.

I LOL muchly at the whiney bitches who STILL cannot get over the fact that Jill won here over Midori. It wasn't Jill's fault that Midori BOMBED her compulsaries so badly that she was given a gift of 10th place. That being said, Midori could easily win today's worlds with her technical merit.

Jill Trenary could do a combination few others even attempt - single axel into TRIPLE SALCHOW with NO foot down in between. Like all highly skilled athletes, Jill just makes it look easy. Jill had to dig deep to get through this program after the problem in the short yet CAME THROUGH LIKE THE CHAMPION SHE IS. Placed FIRST in compulsories (ever tried to do those?) & WON A RICHLY DESERVED THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!

Does Scott Hamilton cry himself to sleep thinking of the lies he tells in the commentary here? This is about the tackiest free skate I've ever seen. What a sad, racist day for figure skating that they gave the gold to Trenary over Ito. (P.S. I have to say a lot of the commentary on this video is pathetic, sexist BS.)

@muffycat26 I agree. I think Jill is a beautiful skater, but Midori should have won.

How in the world did she beat Midori for the gold? Triple Toe Loop Double Toe and a step out on that funky single axel-triple toe whatever? Please!
-
yeah midori was a good jumper but she still had those bandy legs. At least Jill had better choreography . Music sucks bad!,

what a blast from the past!!!

Strange how the argument seems to be of Jill Trenary being the artistic skater, when twenty years later this is artisitically embarrassing and unwatchable, with its bodypopping and naff hand movements, and Ito's programme is as amazing as it was when originally skated, and hasn't dated at all.
I respect Jill, but really, I can't believe she won with what little she did here. It's almost a joke, thank god they abolished school figures... poor Midori having to accept a silver to this is frankly insulting.
