If she had told the Cabinet before the raid, it would have been leaked to The Guardian by the morning and the Libyans would have their missiles ready. Again, armchair critics with no appreciation of the nature of warfare.

The thing about Thatcher is - she never tried to present a persona to the world that was necessarily charismatic or glamourous a la Blair or Obama. She didn't bullshit around. Those are personal aspects about the woman that I admire.

Of course, this 'unbiased' programme does not mention that the bombing of Lybia only took place after Gadaffi bombed a discotheque in Berlin. As for the British interests, Gadaffi was also actively arming.

Absolutely fascinating documentary. Thatcher herself has a great flair for the dramatic. I'm sure she is secretly thrilled that Meryl Streep is to play her in a biopic.
