Part 3 of 3:

British TV documentary 1972 - World In Action - The Dust At Acre Mill.

Graphic accounts of how a British asbestos manufacturer broke the law from 1940-1970 regarding work place conditions.

The Cape Asbestos factory at Acre Mill, above Hebden Bridge has been regarded as one of the UK's biggest work place health disasters. Hundreds of people have suffered asbestosis and died early as a result of fibrosis or asbestos related cancer. The deaths still continue despite the factory closing in 1970.

Locals say the factory dumped huge amounts of asbestos waste in the area.

Exposure to even small amounts of respirable asbestos fibrer can manifest itself as terminal cancer decades later.

That is the deadly legacy of Acre Mill. The site and the people who have been damaged must be treated with respect. Future generations must be kept safe from any disturbance of the asbestos waste that lurks in this picturesque Yorkshire town.
