Gliceto Olarte Dagondon: Campaigning against destructive development in the Philippines

Gliceto Olarte Dagondon is Executive Director and founder of GREEN Mindanao Association (GMAI), an NGO based in Mindanao Island Philippines. GMAI was founded in 1991 with focus on sustain development, assist marginalized people, protection of forest and marine ecosystem and partnership with relevant institution. The first 10 years was engaged on advocacy campaign against logging, pollution and destructive development in Mindanao island. As ED, responsible of GMAI direction-setting and operations. Since 2000, GMAI assisted Higaonon and Mamanwa tribal communities and their lands; help secured their rights, culture and promoted their beliefs and practices. GMAI assisted also local communities of fishers and women's engaged in securing their community ecosystems, livelihood compliments and responding to disasters and conflicts. GMAI promoted tribal sanctuaries for wildlife including marine habitats governed by tribal laws and taboos.GMAI also provided assistance on community water and sanitation project.GMAI committed for a century goal to protect 1 million hectares of remnant forest in Mindanao island for common survival.
