Hell In Far Rockaway NYC: The Poor Suffer Within The Light of Progress

October 12, 2010 - GWETV visits Far Rockaway Queens to follow up on the progress of renovation projects at Ocean Bay Apartments formerly known as Edgemere Houses. Since the start of the reconstruction of the grounds during the mid 90's residents have had a hard way to go. They feel as if they are being forced out of low income apartments as more unfamiliar faces move in to vacant apartments more life long tenants are moving out. Crime persist in the neighborhood as despair over this situation has peeked which calls for a change in policies that prevent private security firms from bidding for HUD contracts. With overwhelming odds the police have their hands full and could use help from security forces that the people can depend on which reflect the community and care sincerely for the residents right to live in peace. We strongly advise all those who live in this area to be trained in disaster preparedness due to the high risk related to natural disasters with respect to the make up of the penninsula. im sorry to say this but far rockaway is wat is becuz of the ppl. how can u expect ppl to want to fix up edgemere when the ppl dat live there dont take care of there buildings for a example ppl piss n the elevaters and there alot of violence in crime.dont get me wrong far rock can be a great place but no ones is willin to help make far rock better if ppl that live there make it unsafe to be there. change starts with the ppl .

You are doing a great job to bring this out! I am angry that there are only 256 views. When I was a kid we used to vacation here in the bungalows down 101st. Our summers here were great memories for us.At the time we lived in Gowanus houses. I took a ride past a few yrs ago and my building at 225 Hoyt st. still has a wood box over the front doorway to hold it up 48 yrs later!
