Though Angelina Jolie has been married to Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, she decided not to have children with her husbands. However, during her marriage to Billy Bob, Angelina Jolie adopted her first child, Maddox, from Cambodia while she was filming Tomb Raider. After Billy Bob Thornton left her life, Jolie again adopted a child from an impoverished nation, this time discovering Zahara in Ethiopia after AIDS made her an orphan. With Angelina Jolie now in the arms of Brad Pitt, the actress decided to have her first biological child, Shiloh Nouvel, in 2006. But after giving birth to her first child, it looks as though Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are heading back to the adoption process, with Vietnamese officials indicating Jolie is attempting to adopt another child into her family from the previously war-torn nation.

Angelina Jolie recently made a trip to the Tam Binh orphanage on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, her maternal instincts picked up once more, and a Vietnamese official has confirmed on Wednesday that Jolie is attempting to adopt a three- or four-year-old boy from the orphanage. E Online reports that Jolie filed adoption papers through a U.S. Agency, where she claimed to be a single mother. According to Vu Duc Long, the director of Vietnam's International Adoption Agency, the papers are part of an attempt by Jolie to adopt a baby boy from the small Southeast Asian nation.

From the International Adoption Department in Hanoi, a branch of Vietnam's justice ministry, Long was quoted by the Washington Post as saying that in Angelina Jolie's case, "Three months would be the longest." Long said that in the case of Angelina Jolie, the request could be processed much faster than that. Under normal circumstances, it can take Vietnamese officials up to four months to properly process the paperwork after the forms for adoption arrive. However, Long said, if the perspective parent has already decided on a specific child to adopt, the process can be completed in roughly three months.

Vu Duc Long also confirmed that his department had received the adoption papers from the 31-year-old Jolie last week, and that the application had already been approved. After the approval, the papers were sent on to officials in Ho Chi Minh City where the case would be reviewed in further details. However, Long was insistent that Angelina Jolie was not receiving special treatment as a result of her celebrity. Hello magazine quoted Long, who said, "We consider her like any other American who wants to adopt children from Vietnam." Long then added, "he is not yet married so the file was from her individually. It will take a few months for us to consider this." Vietnamese law does not allow for unmarried couples to adopt children.

While Angelina may be officially requesting the adoption as a single parent, it seems most likely that much like Maddox and Zahara, Jolie's new son would be adopted by her partner, Brad Pitt. The 43-year-old Babel star formally requested to adopt all the children of Jolie's, with Maddox and Zahara earning the celebrity surname Jolie-Pitt. Together, Brad and Angelina welcomed their first biological child, Shiloh, last May. However, after the powerful Hollywood couple welcomed their third child into the family, they quickly announced that they would be searching for more children to grow their family. In an interview with Anderson Cooper, Angelina Jolie said that, "We want to find another brother or sister in the world for our family. You know, now the questions are more when you have a mixed-race family, do you balance the races so there's another African person in the house for Z? So there's another Asian person in the house for Mad?"

It likely was less of a conscious decision and more of a chance opportunity. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt spent last year's Thanksgiving in Vietnam, where they made a surprise visit to the Tam Binh orphanage after sneaking out of Ho Chi Minh City. Pitt and Jolie spent time passing out toys to children, as well as candy, and it seems that one of these children managed to steal the heart of Angelina Jolie.

  • i respect and love Angelina Joli. she shows great character. she's showing us that there are sooo many kids without parents and are suffering to live. she's going to countries with Aids and War Torn. she's giving these kids a second chance to live a happy life! but i will hope they won't forget who they are and where they came from even if it was bad.

  • I think its funny the story of when that asian kid Angelina adopted.. He grabed on to her and she knew he was her child. He grabbed on to her because that child knew he hit the jackpot. Lucky kid. I wish if I was an orphan someone like Angelina comes walking by. I would do the same thing. You get adopted and then your set for life.
