Salton Sea - Abandoned North Shore Beach & Yacht Club

A quick tour of the abandoned North Shore Yacht Club at the Salton Sea in the middle of the desert in California.

Bask in its glory. The North Shore Yacht Club is an historically significant--not to mention architecturally significant--part of California's legacy. The North Shore Yacht club was the whimsical design of noted architect Albert Frey, who just happened to be a resident of the Coachella Valley. Completed in 1958 by developers Ray Ryan and Trav Rogers, North Shore Beach Yacht Club was one of the largest marinas in Southern California and carried a price tag of $2 million. Celebrities like The Beach Boys, Jerry Lewis, and the Marx Brothers partied there and / or docked boats at the marina.

Renovation of the old Yacht Club on the North Shore of the Salton Sea; the Albert Frey building will be restored and turned into a community center and child care facility. The $3.5 million project will create 80 construction jobs.

@TeknikAlity34 The weather, the beaches, forests, and snow capped mountains are all acts of nature not the creation of the native Californian. Sorry dude, all the man-made shit is fucked up. There are too many people, massive overdevelopment, urban blight, and it now looks like northern Mexico. Actually the white sand beaches in Biloxi, Mississippi looked better and were a hell of a lot cleaner than the ones I saw in California, prior to the '05 hurricane of course.

I remember floating in the Salton Sea when I was about 5-6. It was the first time I was able to float on my back in the water, I guess because of the high salinity. I went back recently and it was like a ghost town. A burger place (famous of course) was still open, not much else. The closer you get to the water, the worse the stench becomes. I think it's mostly from dead barnacles.
