Falcon 1 was the world's first privately developed liquid fuel rocket to reach orbit on 28th September 2008 by SpaceX.

Although private, this achievement was made possible thanks to the role of DARPA, the Air Force and the ORS Office of the Department of Defense, as early "beta" customers of Falcon 1.

  • in orbit not on orbit

  • Thks !

  • Orbital sciences was the first private company to reach orbit but it was with a solid fueled rocket the Pegasus.

Spacex was the first to reach orbit with a liquid fueled rocket and the Falcon 1's primary purpose is a test bed for the larger Falcon 9.

  • That's true but I think Orbital, although private, was partly funded by the US Air Force.

But with the NASA's COST funding SpaceX gets government money too...

Only 100% private to reach space remains Scaled I guess !
