Here is a brief video that contains footage of our first "One For Mary" devotional prayer walk which was held on Saturday morning, May 31, 2008, on the Feast Of The Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth.

The first "One For Mary" devotional prayer walk began humbly at 7 am (May 31st) with 9 individuals: 3 men (one was a boy) and 6 women. Our Lady works in wondrous ways. This devotional walk actually came out of the incredible work done by many other individuals who preserved the statue of Mary which used to reside in the portico of the Mallincrodt campus building in Wilmette IL which originally housed the Western Province of the Sisters of Christian Charity.

The statue of Our Lady actually "came down to earth" - literally - last year to be with the parents and children of St. Joseph School.

We had a wonderful prayer-walk!! The weather was spectacular! We were all kind of "winging it" as far as where to walk and how to synchronize the recitation of the Rosary prayer into our walk. We began at the southeast parking lot. We had different individuals read one of the five joyful mysteries as printed out from this site. One of our attendees - who lives right across the street from Mallinckrodt Park - placed a statue of Our Lady in the first grotto which is where we read the second joyful mystery. We picked another grotto to gather around to read the third joyful mystery. When we reached your Province Center we recited the fourth joyful mystery as follows:

The Fourth Joyful Mystery

THE PRESENTATION 1. Observing the law of Moses they take Jesus to the temple to present Him to the Lord.
2. According to the Law the firstborn male child of every family should be consecrated to the Lord.
3. Mary offers her Son to the Father, then ransoms Him back at the price paid by the poor.
4. Jesus is not subject to the law of Moses, yet to teach obedience, submits to it.
5. Mary is not subject to the law of purification, yet in humility she submits to it.
6. God had revealed to Simeon that he would not see death until he had seen the Messiah.
7. Recognizing the Child, he prays: "Now you can dismiss your servant in peace. You have fulfilled your word."
8. "This Child is destined to be the downfall and rise of many in Israel, a sign that will be opposed."
9. And to Mary Simeon reveals: "And your own soul a sword shall pierce."
10. After they fulfill all the Law requires they return to Nazareth.

Each reading was followed by the Lord's Prayer and the 10 Hail Marys, etc. We laid at least 3 roses at the base of the statue in the first grotto and in the second grotto.

Between stations we simply walked and chatted with each other - individually and with the group. Our last segment of the walk was the longest, taking us all the way to the Garden Shrine where we left the balance of our roses at the base of that beautiful statue.

The basic genesis behind this idea was simply to "get outdoors" into the light of day while we celebrate Our Lady and pray the rosary while walking a short distance - one mile being a distance that everyone can get their head around and feet into walking, etc. The inclusion of roses has always been a very powerful-beautiful correspondence with Our Lady - our Lady of Roses, the name Rose, Rosa and the ROSAry, etc.

We are going to try to make this a seasonal prayer-walk - perhaps even monthly.
