Actually there were Viking bodyguards to the Byzantine Emperor in the 10th century. His capital was what is now Istanbul. Early in his reign he faced oepn rebellion, so he established a guard made up of foreign warriors because he forever distrusted the shifting loyalties of local men. They were called the Varangian guard and remained of primarily Skandinavian origin until the late 11th century.

Persians-really?:) they were mercenaries of king of Poland and a few other's-that's sure...but i've never heard about their opening on other's culture-in movie like that(very nice but historical unreal)...yes:) but in real life social life in viking's lands was far from being so open on foreigns as you wanna suggest it...-->

i like this movie beacause it carries a great message against racism and clash of civilizations .
also it's the first hollywood movie as far as i know presents a real good image of an arab muslim
