This song reminds me of my long lost unrequited love from Texas. We only dated for a year, and yet it was the highest of highs and at the end, the lowest of lows. Sadly I have no idea what became of her or where she has gone, but when I hear this song, it's 1986 all over again. How could one person have such a hold on another person.? Alas, some times, that which we desire the most is the very thing we can never have. Its been a long 24 years. Wherever you are Lorri, I hope you are well.

Try to find her. It shouldn't be too hard. Maybe she's alone. Or maybe, in the finding of her, it will release some of the hold she has on you. I have had a similar experience and, after finding her, we have become great friends. The pain of separation is gone. Good luck.

I remember this song so well from the 80's but had NO idea it was Glen. I even have a "greatest hits" CD. Where is this song?....I loved it then; I love it now! Thanks for posting.

@auldjaded Ironic, those are my 2 very favorite Campbell songs, also. But this just resonates with the grief and longing for what is no more. What a gifted man!

@Mitchsmith62 - it really hurt me so bad knowing such sad stories of two people fell in love and falling apart, while the love remains in their heart. Why there be love like this? And why can't these two people fight and stand firm for their love? Why that so???

I first heard this song with my dad on a rare trip alone together. He is now gone, and this song just makes my heart ache to see him again, but ache in a sweet way. There will never be another glenn campbell. Ive loved him for all of my 50 years.

This is my favorite Glen Campbell song. I love Wichita Lineman, and Galveston, et. al. But this is the top for me. I love the imagery that this song paints in my mind... Thanks for sharing...

I rediscovered this song today after so many years. This is one of the most underrated Glen Campbell songs, and one of the most underrated songs ever written since it doesn't often get mentioned when Jimmy Webb's extensive catalog of brilliant songs is referenced. No one like Glen can convey toughness and vulnerability all at once, and that unique quality shines through in this song. It's a masterpiece and I'm glad I rediscovered it! I just wish there was a high-quality version to download!
Glen Campbell's last #1 country single on any of the national country singles charts. Reached #1 on R&R in January 1988. #4 on Billboard in February 1988.

@nemesisgenius Sorry, I take my information from Joel Whitburns "Top Country Singles" books and it says the song reached #5 on the Billboard Chart.
