I, in my teen age years, danced to a lot of songs having this reggae beat. The lyrics, however, were completely different, Chris. I wasn't saved then. Jesus saved me when I was 27. This is somewhat a marriage between the old and the new, but the combination is refreshingly new! I thank God for you, for giving this glorious song to you, and for the unity Christ has purchased for us. This song will help us to keep it.(Ephesians 4:3)

An interesting point about Luke 12:51-53
I think this passage refers to the division of those who believe and put their faith in Jesus Christ who came to earth to pay the penalty for our sin vs those who do not put their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior. This song addresses only those who have been made new by the grace of God and are now "the face of Christ in a world of shadows." We should love and be unified in Christ rather than argue over denominations and personal standards.

This song has some of the most powerful lyrics I have ever heard. Simply beautiful.

It has been such a cry of my heart that we be more one body. Not at the expense of the most important things..... That Jesus is God, that He died for us, that He rose from the dead to pay the debt of sin we couldn't pay. That He is Lord and only He can make us one. It is a beautifully done song.

@btrask3 It is simple: the division in that portion is not among believers. The point is that there is no way to live in the light and darkness. We have to choose. The song is about the unity (John 17) among those who call on the name of the Lord.

Jesus, the only name we really need! No other name, denomination or religion. My prayer: Lord, make us one, one, one...

If the audience understands that God is love, then they understand the message. One must understand the terminology in order to understand the song.

Chris, I like your song, it makes sense to me, but how do you reconcile it with Luke 12:51-53?
This song just makes you want to lift your hands! GREAT MESSAGE! I was raised baptist but I am now non-denom and my boyfriend is Catholic. This just reminds me that it doesn't matter what your religion, you can still co-exist just as long as your focus is on serving Jesus and loving thy neighbor! =D THANK YOU JESUS!
