The rear axle on the wagon broke.. the solution:
Lift up the rear of the wagon in the tractor bucket and carry it home. It's not too hard to judge how much throttle you need to keep the train together if you have a good ear, you want to hear the engine laboring just a little bit - that way, you know you are gently pushing against the tractor in front so it doesn't pull the train away, but you aren't pushing hard enough to make the train jackknife.
