Piano: Alina Hoffman

My yearning, my obsession,
they take my back in dreams.
In the dance I once obtained it,
Now I've lost my happiness.
While dancing on the Rhein
in the moonlight,
she confessed to me with a loving
look in her blue eyes,
Confessed to me with her pleading words:
O stay, don't go far away,
preserve the memory of your homeland's
peaceful, flourishing happiness.

My yearning, my obsession,
they take me back in dreams.
The magic of things far away
brings a burning ot my soul
The magic of the dance lured me,
and I was then Pierrot.
I followed her, my wonderful sweetheart,
and learned from tears to kiss.
Intoxication and misery,
Illusion and happiness:
Ah, this is a clown's destiny.

My yearning, my obsession,
they take me back in dreams.

  • my personal favorite of all the versions of the aria posted here. nice line and good resonance.

  • Thats a wonderful voice and lovely performance both piano and song.

  • It's fantastic! I love your voice as well the way to express the soul of this nostalgic song.

    Congratulations!!!

  • I've been watching/listening to this performance of Pierrot's Tanzlied for two years now ... along with numerous others here on YouTube. I always return to this performance -- this one remains my favorite of all, emotionally gripping yet natural and effortless. It never fails to hit me right in the heart. What a voice you have! Bravo, Herr Lukasz!

  • muy bello felicitaciones

  • Wow, you are fantastic. I don't know why you're not more known in the United States, but you should be. I am looking at this song in my voice studies this coming year. It's a great work! You do it very well.

  • was the extra deceptive cadence at the end on purpose? I've never heard it that way. Just curious. Different edition?

  • Where can one find a copy o sheet music for this piece that also includes the recit that precedes the aria?

  • Sehr schön gesungen!

  • Wow ... that soft top Gb was delicious. Fantastic rendition!

  • Holy shit!!! This guy can sing. German could be better but, hey!
