[ What's a haiku? A form of Japanese poetry consisting of 17 syllables in three phrases of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively. ]

Credits:
Jan Lewis: vocals, piano
Robert Berry: dobro, bass, drums, engineering

Lyrics:
Verse1:
She slips out at night,
and slips off her wedding ring.
She knows what she wants.

Verse 2:
She goes to a man
Who tells her she's beautiful,
Cause her husband don't.

Chorus:
While her husband sleeps,
He doesn't know that she cheats
...on him, like she does.

verse 3:
She slips out at night,
And slips off her wedding ring.
She's home before dawn.

  • Great job, Jan. I don't know how I missed this when it first went up. You know, you're in good company: Jack Kerouac recorded a ten-minute collection of pieces called American Haiku; and the great Richard Wright, who wrote Native Son and Black Boy, also wrote over 4000 Haiku's. I will soon be posting my farewell to my Creative Writing class—I am officially retired from 40 years of teaching. It will include my poem, which may be the shortest ever written:

    "Japanese Sneeze"

    Haiku!

  • @TimMcMullen Hey, Tim, thanks much. Haha. I love your shortest poem ever written. And speaking of Jack Kerouac haikus, I think he was the writer of my favorite haiku:

    Haikus can be fun,

But sometime they don't make sense.

    Refrigerator.

Wow, you are retiring? Very bad for your students, who had to be the luckiest in the world to have you as teacher, but I'm sure you'll enjoy your retirement.

  • Jan, you are too freaking cool. That is fantastic, girl!

  • @lorriemallard Thanks so much, Lorrie, that's music to my ears.

  • Good as the song is... I want yer Sho-Bud shirt ;)

  • @pickinpedaler Haha. I know what you mean, pedaler, it is a pretty cool shirt.
