  • @Swampax Cheap is the last word I'd use to describe how HD800's feel and look close up. Attention to detail is far better than with virtually any high end pair of headphones, only Stax models can rival it. Yes, Denon's look very expensive as well, in a same way that 1980's Rolls Royce interior looks expensive, but that still doesn't make something like Audi R8 feel cheap in comparison. HD800 has a very precise and high tech look and they feel expensive enough for their price IMHO.

  • @Swampax Its good because you can make a compound of plastic with EXACTLY the properties you want, which is very important in audio. You can't do that with wood, or aluminium, you have to tune the driver around chassis if you use natural materials. If you use compounds you can make them exactly as you want and it gives you more freedom when designing heapdhones, which clearly shows in 800's. Wood or aluminium would have no advantage whatsoever compared to plastic which is used on HD800.

  • @derbigpr500 Well...Part of it is simply that it just doesn't "feel" as good as something like Denons mahogany and magnesium. The other part is that you can have 'good' plastic, but it is always inferior to fx. aircraft aluminium, titanium, magnesium, cabon fibre and glass fibre (in some cases even wood) just to take a few when it somes to feel, durability, resonant properties (most of the time anyway) and so on. What is it good at? Being cheap, reasonably durable and light - for 1400$? Really?

  • @Swampax Whats wrong with plastic? Plastic can be very high-tech and advanced, very strong and durable but extremely light. This is not some cheap stuff that will fall apart.

  • @eggobass You pay for the sound :) And the design is what makes them sound like they do (the special transducer, the enclosure, materials etc)

  • @eggobass

Nope, the box is cheap. It's made from cardboard, a small amount of cheap satin and the same sponge thats in the HD650/600 boxes.

The 'fancy designs' are exactly what I bought these for; its what makes them sound great and feel comfortable - I can't see any nonsense in that.

  • Overpriced. I bet that box is like 100 bucks. Cut down on the frills and fancy designs and just make something that works. Nonsense.

  • @Swampax Well...at least its made of a special type of plastic :3

  • THIS IS HARUHIS SONG! U BASTARD

  • Now, If they were actually made of aluminum and not plastic...
