We're paying...he could have had anything he wanted!...ha ha ha.
By the look of things, the driver had never before eaten at this restaurant. (Maybe this is a posh place that the locals can't afford.) He got the chance this time because the 'foreigners' were paying and so he just 'helped himself' to all his favorite foods!
