Kayaking the first couple of rapids below Glen Onoko, the river was really high with this being a release day AND it had been pouring buckets the day before, it made for a fun, fast run on these class 2 rapids. I was wearing a homemade helmet cam, a cludged together mounting for my Fuji Z-33WP camera.

  • @craigsuecj Yes, this is a cold time of year to get started..but it's almost pool season! Both of the clubs I paddle with have indoor pool sessions where you can practice, learn, take classes, etc, these start in November with one club and january I think with the other. I buy some stuff in a local shop in NJ, if your in NW NJ then check out paddlers cove in Washington. There are stores in PA too.

  • @njmikey721 I bought a helmet on e-bay and should have it in a few days and I'm looking at float bags also on e-bay. There isn't a place locally to get this stuff , is there? I know I'm getting into this late in the season, maybe one more ride in friendly water and then give it up till spring. I was watching videos on here about practicing wet exit, rolls and such but I don't really feel like doing that this time of year. That water is colder than my mother in law's kiss!!!

  • @craigsuecj I'm editing it now, look for it later tonight or tomorrow. You should definetly get helmets and float bags for your boats, safety first. Watch out for that cold water too, we are already wearing drysuits or heavy wetsuits. Check out the Video I just posted from the Mongaup, that was from another river I paddled on Saturday.

  • @njmikey721 I look foward to seeing it. I was a little nervous doing the run because it was only the 4th time in a kayak and second time on the river. I found out afterward we are supposed to have helmets and floatation in the kayaks.

AND I FULLY UNDERSTAND WHY !! One of the guys with me went swimming 3 times and my other buddy and me almost went swimming trying to fetch him!

I think the next few times out we'll stay below Lehighton where it's a lttle more beginner friendly !

  • @craigsuecj A coincidence, I was out there too Sunday, but a section above you, We paddled the Lower Gorge, from Rockport to The Glen. The water was cold, but the air was warm..it was a great day to paddle. I have some video from Sunday, I'll have them up as soon as I'm done editing them.

  • I just made the run from the Glen to Bowmanstown yesterday! A cold, wet ride!!
