The simplicity of this production is fantastic. Sarah is a wonderful actress, the whole opera builds to the this final heartbreaking aria and she delivers on every count. Not since Janet Baker has a singer managed to make every word count whilst performing live. Everyone who thinks opera is stuffy should see this production. Truly awsome and a great tribute to one of Englands greatest composers.

I remember seeing Sarah, pretty much at the start of her international career, singing Ariodante at NYCO, on the floor again, doing "Scherza Infida." I was so engrossed in what she was doing and forgot she was even singing, it was as if she was speaking to each and every one of our souls directly as if we were speaking to our own selves. This may sound very dramatic and over the top, but Sarah inspired me to want to emote and sing the same way she does and it is cathartic hearing her sing...

ssiroe - thank you so much for posting this. I listened to it on radio 3 on christmas eve and to find it here today is a lovely surprise. Although I will always treasure my cd with Dame Kirby as Dido, I am beginning to think that Ms Connolly's wonderfully warm and emotional mezzo really enhances the life and individuality of Dido's part. I first saw her (Ms Connolly) as a marvellous Io in Semele with Rosie Joshua and to watch her career blossom has been a great pleasure. Thank you again.

Gorgeous music and singing. Sarah Connolly sings "When I am laid in earth" so perfectly. One of my favorite mezzos.
