  • I never heard or seen these two movies. Thank you for putting it up on the list now I can check it out.

  • @taurusgirl65 Oh yeah, you have to see the Phibes films. Classics!

  • @truthsurge - oh yeah, easy to see where they took their inspiration in Phantom of the Paradise. But I think it's different enough to consider it a sort of homage rather than a rip off. Fun movie.

  • Vincent had pretty much two styles he worked in, campy and serious. This film sort of crosses the two. When he turned it on dramatically, there really wasn't anyone better.

Watch the Baron of Arizona for an example of this. It really is one of my favorite Vincent performances, but I stuck to just horror films in this list. He is a villain in it, however, and its based on a real historical person. Great stuff.

  • Dr.Phibes is one of my annual Halloween favorites. It's always on TCM every year.

Phibes reminds me of a comic book Super Villian (more deadly than most of the time) but it only adds to the charm of the film.

  • Very cool. 5 stars. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio.

  • I have to disagree. The sequel isn't nearly as good. It's just a cash-in. Phibes comes back for no reason and it introduces supernatural stuff and the killings aren't nearly as ingenious.

  • Man, and I thought Phantom of the Paradise was a great movie. What a ripoff they made of Phibes. The guy in Paradise is disfigured and has to talk through a synth thing.

  • 3:31 Vincent Price had sort of a reputation as a "ham actor", but if you really watch his performances he was a much better actor than he got credit for.

  • Both films were purposely so; being written and directed by Robert Fuest, who worked on the UK television series, THE AVENGERS.

  • I'm CraZy for Phibes!!!~~~I'm CraZy for Phibes!!!~~~I'm CraZy for Phibes!!!~~~I'm CraZy for Phibes!!!~~~I'm CraZy for Phibes!!!~~~I'm CraZy for Phibes!!!~~~I'm CraZy for Phibes!!!
