Performance
Oxford-Michaelwood Services M5
-
Oxide13 is a performance that began in early 2008. I drive from my home in Oxford to Michaelwood Welcome Break Services on the M5. This is roughly ninety miles away and takes about an hour depending on traffic. I then sit and have a Peppermint tea or soy Cappuccino and a small Green&Blacks chocolate bar before driving home.
The work is about trying to escape but ultimately finding yourself in transit, the space that exists between destinations, a space that is always of going and a space to contemplate destination. It is also about waste and the human condition. What constitutes a worthy use of money, time and resources?
Of the many times I have done this performance it has been for the most part alone and on few occasions with the people closest to me. In this film I take my partner Emily and friend Jon who documents the work.
