Revere, Mass.-based candy giant Necco — the New England Confectionery Co. — has shuttered its factory outlet candy store. Where will we get our SweetHearts, Clark Bars and, of course, Necco Wafers now? RhyNewService managing editor Brett M. Rhyne reports.

  • Superb musical selections.

So, tell me; is this store location you're describing the one built into the factory itself? I've never been, but can totally understand the public disappointment.

Perhaps, since we're talking about an on-location factory outlet, it might reverse and reopen.

  • Thanks for your comments. They might, but I doubt it: NECCO closed its historic Cambridge factory a few years ago and built this state-of-the-art facility in Revere. People are miffed, but I don't think NECCO thinks it's worth its while to keep the store open, since it doesn't get the traffic of the old outlet.

  • "Next they'll take down the swings in the playground and cancel recess! (Great video.)"

  • Interesting. I don't live anywhere near there, but am still interested in places of historical value. Was the Cambridge factory THE first Necco factory; the one dating back to the mid-1800's?
