Houston Ballet dances a dress rehearsal of Basic Black, A String of Pearls & Ten Thousand Demons in the Night (1985) It was the first time the dancers had heard Nyman's orchestrated score. A bit of a disaster that got better as it settled in.
In reference to the last comment: Historically, Ballet has been pretty static...offering audiences reproductions of the classic ballets, i.e., "Swan Lake." In this particular piece, Farrell's choreography has utilized all the dancer's incredible technique and expanded their scope of movement.
This is a modern ballet that takes classically trained dancers and pushes them to their physical limits in an unfamiliar genre.
