A fascinating BBC documentary on the name of God, a council of gods, polytheism, and God's wife. The documentary obviously seems to be biased to the commentator's personal beliefs (who is probably not Mormon, and doesn't talk at all about Mormonism in the documentary).

  • @ldsfriendscom Apologizes there,, i must have gotten my strings crossed as to who I was replying too. Woops

  • I couldn't remember the word I was looking for until just now.. Confirmation bias is the problem with faith or enlightened faith when looking for truth. I appreciate your candor as well. I feel regardless of religious beliefs (or lack there of) respect is important. However, respect is earned and ridiculous claims are often met w ridicule and in some cases rightfully so. I get the sense that you are a reasonable person w a few irrational beliefs perhaps. But tell me, what convinces you?

  • @ldsfriendscom The article refers to "receiving evidence of unseen things" as a way of proving God(s) to exist but to me this is the epitome of superstitious belief because of the believers result bias. Faith is a poor tool for discerning whats real when you've got tools like reason, logic, skepticism and the scientific method which ARE proven to work better. Enlightened faith, in my opinion, is a contradiction in terms. Enlightenment about faith=understanding it's true ineffectiveness.

  • @ImStayGold42 I wasn't stating you were supporting Mormonism. I was actually thanking freepoet for his/her support. However, I do appreciate your comments. You disagree, but I don't feel you are disrespectful. More theological dialogue should have this voice.

  • @ImStayGold42 You only glossed over the first part of the article. The latter half of the article shows the weakness of the creation = creator theory. If you read the article in its entirety you will see an argument about enlightened faith. I am curious to have your take on this approach to proving God.

  • @ldsfriendscom I'm not supporting the LDS. However I would encourage you to give an objective look at your religion, it's beliefs and the arguments against them from a different source other than your own religion. Ask yourself, am I believing this stuff because it's true or because it makes me feel good/secure. Personally, I'm interested in truth and the claims of theism conflict w what we find to be true about reality. I think you might have weak standards of evidence. Talkorigins org

  • @ldsfriendscom I gave it a look over actually and my feedback is this. You can't use the Bible or B.O.M. to prove the Bible or B.O.M. They also use the same argument used by Christians saying, Look at the trees, the stars, the moon, etc and that's evidence. I say they are wrong. Existence is proof of Existence. And believing in a prophet is ridiculous unless that prophet can demonstrate accuracy during controlled experimentation. I require higher standards of evidence.

  • @freepoet Thanks for your support!

  • @ImStayGold42 I don't know how familiar you are with Mormon theology, but I would be curious to have your feedback on the article found on our website ldsfriends com /is-there-a-god. Leave your comments on the post. They won't be censored, no matter how much you may disagree with it.

  • @freepoet And the "old argument" to which you refer is another example of the hard headiness of most theist. If something isn't proven to exist, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist at all. However,it is ridiculous to make assertions about it until it is proven to exist. If I told you that a magic tea cup is in orbit around our planet and it knows what you'r thinking, would you believe me? Do you know why not? Because I haven't given you any evidence. Now apply that your your God(s) hypothesis.
