Just to show how difficult it is to program realistic arrows in bodies that don't fight with the environment, and can be easily glitched, I recorded this. From within the Training mission for The Dark Mod, I killed the guard, and then filled him with arrows. Arrows don't stick to "living" AIs, but they do stick to bodies--most of the time.

At the beginning of the video, you can see an arrow stuck straight into the carpet. It was the first shot I fired, and although I aimed sideways at the guard's left temple, the arrow jerked vertical and went into the left eye. As I shot the other arrows into the body, and the body moved from the impact, the head changed position, but the arrow did not. The head was not attached to the arrow and it clipped through and out, but once it was out, it effectively blocked me from dragging the body until I tried another angle of pull. I was hoping to see the arrows along the left side of the body interact with the arrow in the floor.

You can see that one arrow is floating just beyond the length of the arrows that are stuck in the body. It remains in that position, visibly stuck in nothing, but rigidly attached to it's position relative to the body.

Once I pulled the body through the door, it got hung up on something not apparent, and when I continued pulling back, the calculations created a powerful slingshot effect, and the body appears to weigh as much as a pillow, but the floating arrow stays in relative position, clipping through everything, heh heh.

I'd like to know how advanced modern gaming is with these kinds of things, and whether or not it will be solved soon. From some games that came out this year, I'm guessing this hasn't been solved, the fundamentals of how games are built are roughly the same in this respect, only with more experience and money, and that without a real breakthrough, it will be a while before we see visible major advances.
