I filmed this street musician in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India in feb 2006. I was fascinated by the tones of his Ravanhatta, an ancester of our violin. People called him "Bopa", which are a tribe of Gypsies known for their musical skills. They also form one of the lowest castes in India.

  • I am an Indian musician and am greatly fascinated by this instrument. Although I mention it in my lectures, I yearn to own one myself! The command over the bow is amazing, especialy with the bells..its a 2 in 1, rhythm + melody function! Despite the tiny belly, the tone is rich

  • Total Bliss. This is the music of nature. Straight from heart.

  • This instrument and the player are so beautiful! I would love to buy a ravanhatta. Do you have the contact information for this musician? do you have any suggestions for how I can find one? Thanks so much for sharing this video!

  • Sorry, forgot to say thanks a lot for putting the video up. I never got the chance to record him play.

  • His name´s Kishna. I bought a Ravanhatta off him. The silver is a thin, plated metal.

  • Somebody know what is this silver thing on the bamboo?
