This 2009 Mercedes Benz GL550 has the Passport 9500CI custom built into the factory original rearview mirror. The mirror still retains all functions just like with our Valentine One system. This vehicle can also view the factory rearview camera on demand without have to put the vehicle in reverse.

  • but if he wants good performance he should minimal grille hacking is not that bad

  • some people are more about cosmetics than performance.

  • ya still reduces sensitivity don't listen to the company they re trying to sell a product they will tell you a lot of things so you will buy it

  • The big issue here is that the dude just kicked out 80K for his truck and doesn't want to cut out holes in the car if he doesn't have to.

  • You will still get good sensitivity they way you have it, but it is significantly more sensitive if it has an unobstructed view of the road ahead.

  • Escort might recommend that but enthusiast found out that even slightly obstructing the radar antenna behind a mesh plastic grill the performance was less. He then gave the radar antenna a clear view of the road ahead and the radar detection was drastically improved

  • also pts will be high with only to zr4 heads up front get him back in and install an LI

  • Yes, but that's kind of like saying Pro78 recommends you mount your RD high up on your windshield when it should be Whistler recommends that. Anyways doesn't really matter, what matters is that antenna placement!

Placing the radar antenna behind anything (Even plastic) greatly reduces radar sensitivity! If you want to come talk with us at our forum, we have some very knowlegable people and do rigorous testing, I'll send you a PM with the link.

    Thanks

  • Passport is the name of the unit itself and in the "Passport" installation manual it is recommended to install it in the front bumper. By bumper I mean the plastic covering, not the actual metal support.

  • Escort is the name of the company. Also, performance suffers greatly by placing the antenna behind anything.

  • Passport recommends mounting it behind the front bumper.

  • Where is the radar antenna mounted?
