Kari Watkins is a third-generation journalist and a 1986 journalism graduate. Watkins was the first staff member hired by the Oklahoma City National Memorial in 1996 and became the executive director in 1999.
Watkins was instrumental in the design and development process for the memorial and museum and now oversees all operations. She was the recipient of the Women in Communications Byliner Award in 2000, The Journal Record Woman of the Year in 2005 and Downtown Oklahoma City's Stanley Draper Award for Community Excellence. She uses her journalism skills to produce and direct video productions for the museum and has received numerous national awards for her efforts.
