You could say you were in a punk band in '77and all of that fame and fortune didn't matter, but that was a load of shite. Course it fucking mattered. It was all that mattered to anyone who wasn't a liar or in a state of denial.

These guys are a standard against which other bands can be judged.

as i said before punk is a lifestyle not just how a band sounds, it is their mindset, and their need to be apart from the norm

bands like crass, GBH, dead kennedys for me really gave me and many poeple a sub-culture in which they could express things.

i do like the early green-day stuff before they became main-stream i.e american idiot. After that they seemed to turn out the same rubbish every month or so.

punk is supposed to be different, the whole point of punk was for people that felt detatched from society and from the music "scene" at the time, because of bands like green day, blink 182 punk is now in the main-stream.

I was there in Belfast when these guys were at it - i was doing the same thing.... and i'll be at Antwerp next week playing guitar with Terry Hooley... the godfather of punk rock in Belfast.

Punk was perfectly suited to Belfast as the 'real' punk songs are about real pain. Not teen angst!
