Your story is anecdotal evidence at best. If you wanted to believe in something then how come you didn't believe in God instead of the bead? I don't know your personal experience with trying to talk with God, but just as wanting something to happen can delude yourself into believing it does, not believing in something can delude you into believing it doesn't. Of course people who search for God find him because that is generally how you find things.
