@Mububban23 i use 30lb for combat archery with that bow as that's the limit for SCA CA. the shorterbow can sometimes be handt in wars where you have to get around, go under branches etc. i also use a basket hilt attached to my bow so only need a demi, thus being lighter than a full gauntlet.

@Mububban23 Archers don't do as bad as you think :) In certain parts of the world they are holding their own using guerilla warfare tactics in places like Southeast Asia, Africa, and Indonesia. As far as something like this video is concerned I have found a paintball attachment you can put on a bow called an airow gun. Plus, now there is something called Archery tag which gives us a chance to practice. You have to use stealth, and not rush like an assault soldier. Quiet weapons rule :)

@sijar1 Horsebow, cool! What poundage are you allowed to use with those big chunky arrows?
-
@Bendbow When I first got into combat archery, I did some looking into SCA sites and this may have been when the big huge foom-tube arrows with APDs etc became the norm. I'm glad we're tucked away down here in our independent little group so we can follow our own rules :-)
Sadly, since I've had kids and have not been pushing CA as much, interest has waned, classic case of "out of sight, out of mind." But I hope to rekindle interest as my kids get older :-)

@GOBRAGH2 I would imagine we archers would get slaughtered :-D The projectile speed would be chalk and cheese considering our low poundage bows, and visible projectiles are easier to dodge than tiny fast moving paintballs! I do love paintball, but wouldn't want to mix the two hobbies, there's a reason armies use guns and not bows any more :-)

@lordlen8972 Our combat archery is a separate arm of our group, so we use smaller headed arrows to go with specially mesh-screened helms. Whereas SCA don't want to force all the heavies to refit their combat helms, so arrows must be made thicker and chunkier to safely play with the majority. Being a smaller group allows us the ability to make our own decisions, and not be forced to adopt rules from anyone else. That said, I do want to visit Pennsic one day, it sounds amazing :-)

Nice video!
its great to see such a high percentage of combat archers on the field. in SCA events we are often getting something like 5-10% of the people as combat archers, giving a very different event. less hiding behind encampments, and more shield walls rushing. check my videos, i just uploaded a helmet cam of my last war where i did combat archery.

Greetings from Master Alen Bendow,
Elder of the Crown Principality of Avacal, Kingdom of An Tir
Past Principality Champion of Light Combat,
Siiver Wolf ( Barony of Borealis past Light Champion )
OP
There are still places that "real " combat archery still exists. I wish i could pack my bag and kit and come and play the sport i used to enjoy so much. Here they force us to put inch and a quarter blunts on the tip with padding and nock ends , solid fibreglass shafts.

@lonepantherkmt fgbot? Hey everyone, the little guy trying to learn a new word! Awwwww, bless his heart for trying!
Anway aren't you getting tired? I reply once to your sorrowful excuse of a rebuttal and you don't give up, even after StealthFalco showed you up. I weep for your kind, lonepatherkmt, because they won't have long left until we replace you brainless types with reliable synthetic workers that don't need breaks. Realise that soon you'll be left in the dust while we progress.
Goodbye.

@lonepantherkmt You know whats funny is i'm doing this to see how many 4chan newfag comments you're going to spew before you run out of lines. You've never thought of an original insult yourself in your life. So grow the fuck up and think for yourself you stupid shitnugget.
Hey KrazyLolli
That.s a good question, because of low numbers, usually bouts are held every 2-3 months and so you would have to join a group that hold them, also you would need to sign a waiver. That said, we have never had any serious injuries and we use metal weapons as well for close combat.

Do a search for the SCA, they should have loads of groups in SA you could join.

We're located in Western Australia. You should do a search for the SCA. They hold CA bouts and they have branch's the US.
