Riding the Muni Double Decker Bus in San Francisco.

Quote from SF Chronicle:
"Translation for the over-20 set: The bus got high marks.

Muni will be running the double-decker bus, on loan to the city by a British company, on various routes through Jan. 8 to test public reaction, which will help agency officials decide whether to put the buses on their wish list for future purchase."

  • @ ChazJayHeaton: Double Decker Buses are not used over here in the states for public tranist. there mostly for tourism companies in major citys

@raieven: Muni only used these buses for testing/expiramental purposes. so the answer is more than likely no. although it would be a strain on Articulated(bendy)buses that run the Muni routes 14,8x,38,30, the biggest draw back would be a lax for security upstairs since muni has no intention of caring for security&maintenance of thier buses

  • LOS41510, you sound very knowledgeable. However, I must say that in Las Vegas, Nevada and a few other cities, they do use double decker buses for public transportation.

  • I remember seeing this bus and I happend to have my camera that day and took a picture from another 38 that was behind it. I like the concept however I would also worry about the taggers. If MUNI/SFMTA will have a person/s watching the passengers, then I'm all for it.

  • that is the only problem... and this is why we dont get nice things...

  • Woah, first time hearing about this... Geary doesn't have any tunnels and such so the Double Decker Bus seems like a good idea.

  • you must also consider the maintanence cost, those darn kids tagging the bus, and the fact that no one could stand while the bus is moving (from what I heard you cant stand while in motion) If you put it all together, it really isnt worth it in SF.

  • The bus interiors looks very simmilar to CCCTA (The County Connection) busses we have here in Central Contra Costa County. We have nice busses because there aren't a whole lot of taggers tagging our $500K busses, and we have wooden panels too LOL. In fact, I don't remember seeing any County Connection busses having any graffittis on them, and are mostly clean inside and out on most days.

  • does this mean, you hardly have any double decker buses in the US? thats crazy xD

  • this doesn't look secure/safe if a fight breaks out.

  • i rode it in the 49 - Van Ness and Mission

  • So are we getting these or what?

  • 46A!!

  • I would like to see more of that bus. I am tired of being smashed in by other passengers who couldn't care of noting how fragile one is when there is literally no room for me to stand without knocking over someone else in the process. I will stop riding Muni buses until Muni does everything in its power to prevent any injuries associated with very crowded buses. I cannot tolerate it any longer. And yes, I don't want to see young adults and kids tagging or vandalizing the buses.

  • those bus would be cool here in the san francisco but those damn little kids going bomb it up!
