Jushin "Thunder" Liger Wins the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title for the First Time

One final clip, and arguably the beginning of the Jushin "Thunder" Liger era. He's facing off against Hiroshi Hase, and the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title is up for grabs. While Liger had only been with New Japan for two years at this poitn, his onslaught is too much for Hase. With an Arm Trap Backdrop Suplex(I've also seen it referred to as the Liger Suplex), Liger claims his first of eleven IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Titles.

The real reason why Jushin Liger won the title here, was because a week later, Hiroshi Hase was going to the Soviet Union with Takayuki Iizuka to learn sambo, where Hase developed one of his signature moves, the uranage.

DAmn ! he beat Hase for that ! I should have known being 33 yrs old and being fan of japanese promotions since 91 ! But there was no youtube back then so tapes were way harder to find . I had best of Liger through RF video starting with Kiechi Yamada but dont think that match was on there . Cause I love Hase too ! So I think I would have remembered but maybe not . DAmn ! way to ramble . Sorry !

that arm trap suplex is beautiful move. it's rare to see a suplex hold as a finisher anymore. bobby roode's version of the perfect-plex is the only one i can think of.
