Thing A Week #16 - "This Time Tomorrow" - Mike Lombardo

This song is the tale of a 1931 Chicago Private Eye. It won 'Best Jazz Song' in the 2008 Upstate New York Songwriting Contest. (Not sure it's 'jazz' but I'll take it!)
Update: This song was also a finalist in the 2008 US Songwriting Competition.

When i woke up in the morning with a fire in my head

and she was sleepin like a baby so i left her in bed
cause she's spent way too many night just stumblin' around
or slumped over in the corner with her head on the ground

I checked the mirror as I put on my coat,
I knew i had to leave her cause I knew she couldn't cope
but I left her a note
