(Make sure to select the highest playback resolution available - should be 480p - for the best audio quality. It does make a difference, the audio is much less compressed by Youtube if the highest resolution is selected.)

John Coltrane's "Coltrane" 1962 Impulse! album now remastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman for Analogue Productions on 2x LP cut @45rpm.

Sound "signature" on this remaster is a little different from the usual Coltrane/RVG sound on Impulse!, with the sax being not as upfront as we can hear on other versions, and the drums a little overpowering. My guess is that this approach was chosen to avoid any side effects of making EQ changes to replicate the original release sound (somewhat brighter according to most opinions), instead just keeping the sound presentation of the original recording. Anyway, it sounds great :)

  • technically, it would be impossible to judge the quality of the audio in this environment here, at youtube - most of all because we are talking about camera audio. I would recommend recording straight from the amp as that is what pro audio engineers would do. Than we can compare and judge, but like this.... I hear the cimbals and the hats and without the video showing the highend equipment you have it sounds like a bad mp3 version playing from an ipod in somebody´s flash home...

  • that sounds amazing, i can only imagine what it sounds like in person

  • My goodness, your B&W's are excellent. I play my vinyl out of a pair of $200 AIWA speakers my family bought more than a decade ago haha.
