My favorite scene from one of my favorite films, Taxi Driver (1976).

Awake again, I can't pretend, and I know I'm alone
And close to the end of the feeling we've known
How long have I been sleeping
How long have I been driftin alone through the night
How long have I been running for that morning flight
Through the whispered promises and the changing light
Of the bed where we both lie
Late for the sky

  • also television plays an extremely important and complex role in the lives of lonely people. It both provides a sort of basic opiate against the pain of loneliness, and leaves the lonely person feeling disgusted at their own reliance on television. The images of human connection both provide an escape and rub your face in the fact that you are sitting, alone, watching.

  • Taxi Driver is one of the greatest movies ever

  • @codemonkeybrains The reason why I think De Niro did a perfect job for 2 reasons, he can fucking act but also more thank likely I would bet a million to 1 that he experienced the same feelings and thoughts in his real life before he was even acting, so this just came natural to him

That is what I think, any comments or thoughts out there?

  • Probably the most powerful scene I've ever seen in a movie. It really moved me.

  • When I was a kid in Italy almost 50 years ago I remember a cartoon

called "senza parole". kind of fits that mold.

  • amazig stuff ! the best on the world !

  • One person is late for the sky

  • @92af Without a doubt...it's easily in my top 5, if not my top 1 :)

  • There are not many people who can relate in any way to this scene. Most probably sat in the theater and wondered why the scene kept going on so long. When I saw it, it grabbed me hard. This is one of the most amazing scenes I've ever seen in a movie. He is feeling awful and alone, but holding a gun in his hand. He could go either way. Simply amazing.
