On Friday the 16th 2009, a P40 Kittyhawk and P51 Mustang took off from Hood aerodrome in Masterton (New Zealand), to fly over Wellington city in order to promote the Wings Over Wairarapa airshow.

This footage is that shot from the cockpit of the Old Stick And Rudder Company's P40-E (http://www.oldstickandrudder.com), and as flown by Stuart Goldspink on that flight. Not the most exciting of aviation videos, but pretty cool if you've always wondered what it's like to fly a P40.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2009, Wings Over Wairarapa is firmly established as a must see biennial event on the Australasian aviation event calendar. Yes, available on the WIngs Over Wairarapa 2009 DVD, though that is only available as a PAL disk -- will play in a computer, but not in a North American NTSC DVD player. Other P40 clips available on the Classic WW2 Fighters disk as well, and that DVD is available as an NSTC format version.

Where can I obtain a copy of this DVD? I would love to have it to remember this day. I have some footage from the Mustang I took but not up to this quality. Also plenty of stills.

You can't actually tell too well from this video, but for most of this flight the P-40 was flying in close formation with a P-51 Mustang (who was the leader) -- hence the hand on the throttle!

Hello James. Are you perhaps thinking of World of Wearable Arts? Or maybe the major airshow in Wanaka which actually wasn't run in 2009. @binkleBEAR not true, my Second Class Medical Certificate states that I MUST wear corrective lenses to have a better vision, and i do so for every flight! Now as far as becoming an ATP i suggest you do more research on it and if you have a desire to go down that path, but medical and other requirements must be met and could be a little higher than a those of a private, commercial pilot. Simply talk to real pilots and flight schools for a better understanding.
