Welcome to Athens, Georgia. My home for 2 years...cool, little city. Lots of fun and plenty of trouble. Athens is quite different from what people may think...yes, the city has been invaded by thousands of frat guys/sorority girls and rednecks but if you get to know the town and the locals you will learn another story. I was there in 2000-2002, I noticed a lot of segregation between ethnicities as well as from the locals and college students. Athletes (regardless of ethnicity) lived like kings. I have some cool memories about these projects.....Ha ha. My second home aka "The Freak Show" was a trailor- burglarized 5x's- off Peter St and I would send out of towners to Nellie B in the middle of the night- I won't say why. I remember befriending folks in Broadacres early in the a.m. as I walked drunk from Downtown- cool people, and almost getting jumped at Parkview Extension by a car full of folks....just me and a buddy- it was about 5 on 2 - the song "Check My Footwork" was the jam...shirts off knuckling up then my buddy started dancing to "Check My Footwork" in his ragged shoes around their car....they went from angry to laughin at him then they drove off and left us in peace.
