Ducky is a green cheek conure who is almost two years old; her "hatchday" is Aug 15.

She's the best bird I could ever ask for. Ducky is a total goofball, a complete ham, a hopeless lovebug, and a complete joy at the same time. She is smarter than I ever imagined a little bird could be, was potty trained in a week or two after I brought her home (10-11 weeks old at that time), and talks nonstop around her "flock" of people she knows (figures that she would clam up for the video!).

I think her vocabulary is about 15-20 words, and she sometimes uses them in context (not consistently). She still finds it easy to pick up new things.

I know many people caution new buyers against getting green cheeks, and I can't deny that the species has its flaws (being loud, prone to biting, etc) but I have to say that positive reinforcement works wonders on this species and all the green cheeks I have heard of have been very food motivated. If you are confident in your ability to train an animal to do behaviors you should be fine with a green cheek or other Pyrrhura. Consistency is key. And don't forget the food! ;-)

I find Ducky to be phenomenally quiet. Ever since she was a baby I always talked to her in whispers or in low tones. So when she babbles now, it's usually very quiet (mimics the tone in which she was taught). It works.

  • I'm surprised you said that Green Cheeks were loud. Ours is pretty quiet and the books I've read say that Green Cheeks are about the only Conure species that is not loud. Anyway, thanks for the video. I love Green Cheeks too.

  • I love that walk where their head feathers sort of flatten on top. Mine is a Cinnamon too. He's super quiet, sweet, and cuddly. He'll be 2 years old in April. He was given to me in October because his owner had to move to Australia. She watches my videos of him to keep in touch.

  • so adorable!

  • lol if you want a good laugh at my goofball of a Cinammon GCC check out my vid lol

    Ducky is absolutely adorable :D

  • Uh-oh. Flat top! Watch your fingers. HAH!!! Looks exactly like my little Maggie girl. Guarding her cage. If I ignore her and walk away, all of a sudden the attitude changes to a loving one.

  • OMG!! Your bird is sooo adorable! I also have a green cheek named Baby, which is funny cause he is also a baby :) He only says his name... I hope mine will be like yours too!!

great bird, thumbs up if you agree

  • love the little lean forward she does at the begining, my PGCC does the same thing when she is "strutting" in her territorial mode... Green Cheeks are the best birds, I love them so much, so much personality to be such small birds and very smart... as far as loud, I've never met a loud one compared to other conures/parrots

  • She is adorable!
