41 mpg in the 70's and my car 40 years later barely gets 25. So much for gubmint regulations!!

I averaged 43mpg on a road trip. with a 4 speed! the European 120y(1.2litre version) with a five speed could get into the 50's
-
41 to the gallon! forget the prius bring back the b210!!! lol

I remember 4 of us in one of these cars, and a big hill. We just barely made it up. But we were young and high so it was really funny.

My grandfather had a '75 or '76. A total rustbucket. Every year or two, he would staple/rivet new steel plates onto the bottom of the car (the part that runs under the door opening and along the side) then paint it black. Since the car was yellow, it made it look like a bee. He later traded "up" (if you can call it that) to the 210. I never felt it had the same personality.

Cars back in the day were easier to understand mechanically than today's electronically-complicated , boring fiber-glass pieces of shit! I used to enjoy Saturday afternoons working under the hood of my father's '74 Dodge Dart and '85 Reliant K , my '78 DATSUN hatchback, '86 Honda Civic , '89 Plymouth Sundance and '90 Plymouth Acclaim. Nowadays, with my 2006 Hyundai Accent, the ONLY THING I'm able to (or DARE ) do "under the hood" is check the oil dipstick!! God how I miss the old days....:-)

@Manimal347 Low 20s? I highly doubt it - modern EPA ratings would be lower, yes, but I would think 26-28 city and 32-34 mpg highway would be about right. Like most Jap. cars in the '70s, Datsuns were light with none of heavy safety equipment required today. No airbags, front protection, side protection, etc. & as a result, smaller engines, struts, suspension, gearbox, etc. And the EPA often tested out the cars with the least options, in this case probably a model without air conditioning.
-
No. Not at all. That was EPA milage, circa '75, for highway driving. Today, I bet the EPA would place it in the low twenties.

is it real? very high gas mileage...

@Threetails Exactly right. I bought a '77 B210 in the late eighties when I started college and the thing ran like a champ, but the body was rusting away. By the time I had it junked it literally had no floor on the passenger side....I used to lay out a piece of sheet metal but if it rained hard or snowed the front tires would shoot the rain or snow right into the car. I used to wear a hooded raincoat in the car !
His only complaint about the car is that it's too small to molest children in.
