This is a short video showing the Luxeon lightsaber that's come to be known as the "Killer Penny". It's called that because of the amount of copper used in its construction. All together it tips the scales at just under 4 pounds. It's made of over 70 individual parts, many of which were custom machined.
Luxeon sabers do not house any electronics inside the blade whatsoever. It uses a very bright LED that shines through a special lens assembly and up into a hollow polycarbonate tube. This particular saber uses a 5 watt green Luxeon LED. It's the brightest saber I currently own.
The beginning of the video has Kit Fisto from FX-Sabers checking out the KP. The dude in the blue T-shirt later in the video is me.
Though cameras tend to overexpose lights to make them appear brighter than they actually are in person, this video has NOT been modified or doctored to make the blade appear brighter. It has simply been edited together for content.
To answer some of the questions people might have....
*The saber is my own design. It was machined by my good friend AceRocket. He does great work.
*No, it's not for sale. Sorry.
*It's not "real" in that the blade is a lit up polycarbonate tube.
*Xwing is correct in that it doesn't currently have sound, but that's about to change. I have a special Plecter Labs board for it. The power Level Indicator will be replaced by animated LEDs, but will still let me know when batteries get low.
*It's a 5 watt Luxeon LED driven at 1 Amp. So it IS overdriven a little. The brightness is a combination of blade construction, the driver, optics and the camera, which often makes things look brighter than they are in person. I have to admit though, this is an extremely bright saber. Brighter than any other Luxeon I've made, 5 watt or not.
*I am a 38 year old lightsaber-geek. People can say whatever they want about me "playing with toys" or "needing to grow up". It doesn't matter to me. If they want to expend the energy getting upset that I somehow don't live up to their idea of what I should, then all I can say is, I'm surprised you CARE what others do so much. I doubt what others do really affects your life as much as you make it sound. If you want to continue getting upset about people, there's a LOT more important things in this world to get upset about than whether or not I enjoy lightsaber props. It's your life though.
*As far as how much I paid for it....Well, understand that I paid a lot less than I otherwise would have if I hadn't worked with Ace on other projects before. I got a HUGE deal on it, paying essentially material cost (which 3 or 4 pounds of machinable copper isn't cheap). If you were to have a saber made up with around 70 individual parts, I'd say you could expect to pay around $700.00, but that's just a guess.

Hey guys! I already have a CF board for the KP, but I'm still messing with how I want the LED animation and sound fonts. The slots for sound are just in front of the copper ring that rests on the front section of the fluted grip material. I still need to make a nice museum type display case for this saber. It deserves that I think. Maybe a nice brass nameplate too.

Hi all. I made the blade myself, as I have done for years. There are some ready made blades available through TCSS or UltraSabers and a couple other folks that do this sort of thing too. I bought the LED from the U.S. Luxeon distributor. I designed the hilt and my friend Erik machined it for me. I hope this helps.

i'll pay u all the costs and extra 50% if u can make one for me isr.
and extra20% if u construct it using my design. thank you.

DatoFarid, Private message me and we can talk. I can probably have your custom design machined no problem. Be aware though, the machining costs are what requires the most money usually.

What do you mean, it actually feels like a real saber ?! I think all the weight is in the hilt since the lightsaber is just some kind of, and I know some ppl will comply, laser. I like it and I'll buy one if I could xD hahaha...

XeeTaah, I expect what Kit meant was that since it's much heavier than most other sabers of its type, you definitely know you're holding something. I agree that a "real" saber (if they could be made) would not have any mass in the blade at all. Since this particular saber was using a thin walled polycarbonate tube as a blade, and with a 4 pound hilt, the balance point was actually not in the blade at all. It was about 4 inches into the front of the hilt. Maybe he was talking about that.
