Planting Blueberries in a raised bed. Blueberries thrive in a peaty moisture retentive lime free soil. The waxy white flowers are followed in August September with wide deep blue berries. These are delicious fresh or in pies. The bushes grow from 4' (120cm) to 6' (180cm) and to keep them bushy they can be sheared over in April.

  • Blueberries need very acid soil. Peatmoss is very good for acidifying soil. Blueberries like a heavy mulch, and pine wood chips, pine straw or Spruce needles are good mulches which over time help acidify the soil. Blueberries need to be kept moist, but they do not like being waterlogged.
