High speed video of the fountain effect in superfluid helium-4. The fountain is produced due to two properties of superfluid, the ability to flow through very small pores and the ability to flow due to temperature gradients (thermomechanical effet). Video was taken in August 2007 in the Taborek/Rutledge research lab at the University of California, Irvine.

  • You don't need to pump it. It's a superfluid so it is moving out of the container on it's own; that's what superfluids do.

  • I have to pee now.

  • @gtheskater it will climb all over you.

  • These would be great additions to a music video, if they haven't already. Or maybe you should add music to them?

  • i wanna pee superfluid to see what happens

  • @Pimpmastahanhduece no friction at all is the physics of them actually, an absolute zero friction.

  • thats just chuck norrises spit.

  • @jhewitt2008

I hope you are right sir :)

  • @sleepingeye You sir, are intelligent.

  • i read on science daily that superfluids can escape airtight containers, i wanna see that shit!!

  • @sleepingeye I doubt this is possible. You might want to read this wikipedia article :
