Just received my Zeiss 50mm 1.4. The fist impression is very good, a nice solid metal lens. Albeit a "normal" 50mm lens, this is an old school lens with no AF motor that has a limited target audience, I think. However, the lens offers AF confirmation and electronic communication with the camera body.

It is to be used on a Canon 5D.

  • Can't say, I haven't tried the Canon one. The zeiss is very very sharp @ f2.8, and pretty ok wide open.

  • Ringo?

  • @sethhendrix :)

  • Do you ever post any images on site such as Flickr ?

  • @mikeismad61 Improve T star coating.. haha :) You pay a premium price, however there's nothing but love in these lenses. I also bought the 35mm f2, sweet. Yes its an old/clasic design and people buy the older versions from ebay.

  • Has anyone seen any reviews comparing the older Contax/ Yashica ZEISS lenses and the latest Canon/ Nikon fit versions?

    Now that would be interesting!

  • @mikeismad61 I have read some reviews, some people claim that the differences are barely noticeable in terms of image quality. Sorry but I can't remember the links.

  • how is the image qulaity sharpness compared to the canon 50 1.2

  • Hello,

After the use what about the manual focusing?

    Best regards.

  • Thank you for your helpful reply. I used/sold Contax / Yashica gear including range of Zeiss lenses, I also suspect that since a Sonnor is still based upon a Sonnor design (for example) there can't be many differences apart from perhaps improving the T star coating...???

Thanks for posting an enjoyable unboxing vid - now all I have to do is work out how to afford the glass!
